Meet the Founder
Kerry Snuggs BEM
Kerry Snuggs dedicated an incredible 21 years to the Police force, embodying unwavering commitment and service.
Her journey began as a special constable for four years, before she transitioned into a regular officer for 17 years.
In 2012, while selflessly assisting a man in distress, Kerry faced a life-changing injury on duty. This injury profoundly altered her path, leading her to utilise a wheelchair during her rehabilitation.
Although she continues to combat chronic pain that resulted from her injury, Kerry’s spirit remains unbroken and vibrant, igniting hope in those around her.
This challenge, though it marked the conclusion of her career in policing, became the catalyst for her remarkable resilience. In 2019, Kerry faced her darkest hour after being diagnosed with PTSD and experiencing a harrowing episode that nearly cost her life.
Yet, in the depths of despair, a lifeline appeared. With the support of Service Dogs UK, she welcomed Bert Snuggs into her life. This loyal companion offered companionship and comfort, allowing Kerry to restore her passion for helping others, despite the heart-wrenching loss of Bert in February 2023.
During her time with Bert, Kerry made a significant difference in the community by founding a charity in 2014 dedicated to assisting vulnerable individuals. Her enthusiasm brought people together, fostering a spirit of unity and compassion that truly transformed lives. Under her leadership, the charity garnered esteemed recognition with the Queen’s Voluntary Award and was celebrated with a British Empire Medal after she rallied over 200 volunteers to distribute food during the challenging times of the pandemic, ensuring that over 10,000 people were fed.
Additionally, she was honoured with a Point of Light award from Boris Johnson, while her charity achieved a commendable shortlisting in the National Diversity Awards 2022.
Though she gracefully stepped down from the Acts of Kindness Community (Solent) charity in 2022 and ultimately resigned in January 2023 to focus on her personal mental wellbeing and the upcoming Intrepid Games, Kerry's journey of service continues to inspire.
Her rich experience in charity work, including her significant contributions to an orphanage in Kenya, highlights her boundless compassion and dedication.
In January 2022, Kerry embraced a new chapter in her life by joining a sitting volleyball team, where she discovered joy in camaraderie, laughter, and teamwork. This experience has not only nurtured her physical and mental wellbeing but also reinforced her desire to uplift others facing similar challenges. Kerry’s mission is clear: to shine a light on those whose unwavering service deserves recognition and to offer purpose and focus to individuals on their own unique journeys. Her story is a testament to the power of resilience, love, and community, inspiring us all to rise, support one another, and celebrate the triumphs of the human spirit.
